Mens rea is a Latin word which means guilty mind.  The mens era is used to describe the mental element which is required for a crime.  Mens rea can be defined as the state of the mind that is required to convict the defendant of the specified crime. The mens era allows one to differentiate between the person whose intention was to commit a crime and a person who did not commit a crime.  Establishment of mens rea is necessary when proving the guiltiness in the crime committed.  In mens rea, the one must prove that the defendant committed the culpable state of mind.  In mens rea, one person must have a guilty state of mind and misconduct. MPC’s are used in the classification of the mens rea. The MPC is influential in furthering the discourse on the mens rea.
