Law of exponents is also called rules of exponents.  The law comprises of three ideas namely how many times the number is to be used, a division which applies to negative numbers and fractional exponent. Exponents in other names are referred to as indices or powers.  The exponents explain how many times the number has been used.  The manipulation of exponents is one of the trickiest concepts of the algebra. When adding and subtracting with the non-like terms, you find problems since it is hard to combine them.  If dealing with terms which have same variables, you are supposed to subtract the second coefficient from the first one and vice versa in case of addition.  Anything that is raised to power remains the same and anything raised to power zero becomes one.   To eliminate negative exponent, you are supposed to put one and then change exponents to become positive.  In case of fractions, you are required to flip a fraction that is raised to an exponent that is negative to make it positive.
