2ND LAW OF THERMODYNAMICS

 

2nd law of thermodynamics is all about the quality of energy. The law states that the energy transferred or rather transformed and it is later wasted. In addition, 2nd law of thermodynamics further states that the natural tendency of an isolated system degenerates to a disordered state.  The 2nd law of thermodynamics explains the relationship that exists between the thermal energy and other forms of the energy and how that energy affects matter.  The 2nd law of the thermodynamics is termed as being interesting when compared to the other three laws of thermodynamics.  According to the 2nd law of thermodynamics, it is hard to convert heat energy to the mechanical energy with the efficiency of 100 percent.  There is some leftovers heat in the gas after the gas has been heated that cannot be used in any work. Waste heat is discarded by transferring it to heat sink. The energy flows from the hot body to cold body until they reach to equilibrium when the hot and cold bodies are brought into contact. The movement of heat from the cold body to hot body requires an external energy known as a heat pump. Transfer of heat is an irreversible process.  According to Mitra, the consequential implication of the 2nd law of thermodynamics is that it gives the thermodynamic arrow of time. Boston University suggests that 2nd law of thermodynamics predicts the end of the universe.
